Last Sunday we had a learning and fun day of backgammon. With a group of eight, we packed a lot activities and matches into six hours. First, Sabri Büyüksoy explained the differences between Turkish tavla and international backgammon. Then, the group divided into two teams for a warm-up backgammon match. After that, two different teams played once more using a tournament clock, recording the match with a program developed with artificial neural network technology and then analyzing the decisions. This way we got some analysis experience and also grasped the difference between clocked and unclocked play. Then Sabri Büyüksoy played against the program and we examined the program. After all these warming up, our tournament started with the participation of 5 players. During the tournament we had a chance to follow Turkey-Poland Nations Cup 2012 match with the players who are available between matches. Moreover, we met some of the players of İSTAVDER league activity. In the execution of the tournament , we used a web-based software with a modified Swiss format. In this format, players under three losses continues to play. Thus, we had 7 tours in the tournament. First we played without clocks but when we ran out of time, we used a clocked timing format called SpeedGammon.
The tournament ended with a tie of first three players. However, all five participants will represent OBSS on September 14-15-16 at 16th İSTAVDER/EBGT İstanbul Open tournament Advanced category. Thanks to all participants, congratulations to the players and wishes for good matches in the tournament.
All the matches were 3-pointers.
