Sabri Büyüksoy, supported by OBSS, competed at the 37th Monte Carlo 2012 World Backgammon Championship where he managed to progress to last 16 of 136 players. Recently in April, reaching to the title of European Pro Champion in Cyprus, Sabri Büyüksoy sticks to his goal of spreading backgammon in Turkey and the World since he started playing in 2007.
Monte Carlo and I 🙂 We are at a park which starts from the entrance of Monaco Palace and extends the old city. My wife Şebnem is taking the picture.
Famous Hotel Fairmont Monte Carlo. Last year tournament dates were changed because the prince was getting married here.
In the hotel room, I am posing as the OBSS National Team 🙂 After matches begin, focusing on the game seems to be more critical than posing.
Half of the tournament room. Other half was open later. Since it was so cold we needed to wear jackets and other warming clothes.
Playing against World’s # 1 backgammon giant Falafel (literally he looks like a giant too). Şebnem gives her support again. By the way, after the tournament I heard that I am the backgammon giant #71.
We are playing with Matt Cohn-Geier on Federation Cup as Turkey vs. USA. By the way, in addition to OBSS I am also playing for WBF-Türkiye who nominated me as the representative of Turkey. I would like to thank Arda Fındıkoğlu and Peter Chan for providing these pictures.
Nevzat Doğan, first World Backgammon Champion with Turkish origin. He lives in Denmark and as backgammon counts he is basically a Danish. We dreamed to play together in the final after we both ended up in first 16. I hope we will play together some time, inşallah.
Our Turkish group with the exception of some outliers. Last year we were a group of four. This year our count increased. If you would like to hear a WBF-Türkiye narration of our Monte Carlo adventure please click.
