I have been to a lot of backgammon tournaments last three years. But 2013 EBGT İSTAVDER Anniversary Backgammon Feast exceeded my expectations with its perfect organization and chic presentation qualities. With this tournament, the ancient game of backgammon which has lost some blood in the last decade expressed its wish to recover in the region where it was born. I would like to congratulate İSTAVDER for organizing this tournament and giving tremendous support for backgammon in its first five years. I would also like to separately thank to Fuat Erdağ, the head of İSTAVDER.
Results of the Main event can be followed from http://ftbgsystem.com (Click the 5. YILDÖNÜMÜ ŞÖLENİ from the list of tournaments). The web-based software is freely available for public use. It is basically a Swiss modified system where players with a number of losses get eliminated. It will be used in all EBGT tournaments this year. In this tournament, especially the new SMS feature which informs players about their opponents and table numbers was a great help.
In the Main event where 134 players from different countries played, Parviz Rokh from Iran got the title against Turkish master Erhan Yenişen. I would like to congratulate Iranian team for winning Doubles event too. At the anniversary celebration dinner, an unforgettable night with a famous Turkish rock star performing, we were once more reminded that backgammon is not only a race.
Below you will find some moments from the tournament. For detailed results please visit İSTAVDER web site http://istavder.com.
It is best to start playing backgammon as early as possible 🙂 Presenting itself with different depth for each individual, the game of backgammon can be bigger than what it seems.
The tournament room can only be this much better. Everybody plays on a separate table, every table has a number. You don’t bring your home made board instead play on a beautiful backgammon board 🙂 All the matches are clocked. You get an SMS, go to your table and wait for your opponent do the same. The room is well well-lighted, spacious and results are instantly available on the big screen. You can have fun playing with the giant board. What else would you like 🙂
